Overview

The 500-room, 16-story Radisson Blu Hotel is the first hotel connected by skyway to the Mall of America. Features include a restaurant and lounge, spa and fitness facilities, an indoor pool, two ballrooms, and more than 23,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as two and a half levels of parking under the hotel structure. To prepare the site, the south portion of an existing one-level parking structure was demolished and vibro-compaction used to improve soil bearing pressure. An additional level of parking and the main ballroom were added above the north half of the existing parking structure, which required strengthening of existing floor slabs and foundations at various locations, all while maintaining the function of the Mall’s loading dock beneath the structure. Structural systems are cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete floors and roof with concrete columns and shear walls and steel-framing for the ballrooms.
