Elevating the Connection

We are proud to share that Treetop Trail at the Minnesota Zoo is featured in the August 2025 issue of STRUCTURE Magazine: “Elevating the Connection between People, Animals, and the Natural World.” This innovative project transformed a decommissioned monorail structure into the world’s longest elevated pedestrian loop, showcasing the power of adaptive reuse to connect people with nature. The article, co-authored by Thomas Root, Director of Planning & Construction at the Minnesota Zoo; Craig Huhtala, Structural Engineer at MBJ; and Will McDevitt, Associate Structural Engineer at Buro Happold, highlights how structural ingenuity, sustainable design, and bold vision came together to create an experience that will inspire and serve generations to come. In addition to our co-author collaborators, we are thankful for the partnership with Snow Kreilich Architects, TEN x TEN, and PCL Construction on this transformative project.
