THE PROJECT

Project Highlights
  • Connection design for the rail trusses that support the retractable roof
  • 4,000 tons of steel (MBJ portion of total 18,000 tons of steel for the roof structures)
  • 240,000 SF retractable roof, the largest single diaphragm moveable roof in the world
  • Modular construction leveraged for our scope of work

Globe Life Field, home to Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers, is a new 40,000-seat baseball stadium uniting fans as a premiere destination for both sports and entertainment. Featuring a large ETFE-clad retractable roof, the stadium provides a year-round climate-controlled environment, state-of-the-art technology and a multitude of amenities to enhance the visitor experience. The ballpark’s retro design is accented with structural steel as a historic nod to the original 1994 park.

OUR SOLUTIONS

MBJ provided connection design for the primary supporting trusses to the retractable roof which operates on a track system powered by 20 electric motors that open and close the roof. The roof system consists of Ethylene Tetraflouroethylene (ETFE), a plastic polymer related to Teflon to allow more natural light to enter the playing field. To help expediate project communications, MBJ maintained on-site representation during the critical schedule component of construction. Our team also provided closely collaborated solutions with the EOR for late changes relative to ductility requirements, allowing the project construction to remain on schedule.
