THE PROJECT

Project Highlights
  • Five-story, 300,000-square-foot Class-A office complex
  • Two-story parking ramp
  • Concrete and steel structure
  • Integrated steel delivery reduced schedule by 54 days

FBI Regional Headquarters, owned by Ryan Companies and leased to the GSA, consists of several structures including a five-story office tower, a visitors screening facility, an annex building and a two-story parking structure, all totaling over 300,000 square feet. The central office tower and support buildings are designed to fit modern blast design and progressive collapse design criteria, as prescribed by the security programs of the General Services Administration. The office campus consolidates four of the FBI’s area locations into one facility to call home.

TESTIMONIALS

“In all my years in the structural steel fabrication business, I have never seen a more innovative and forward-thinking way of approaching design and engineering than that of Meyer Borgman Johnson.”

OUR SOLUTIONS

The building’s primary structural frame is composite metal decking with concrete topping and braced steel frames. Walls are cast-in-place concrete tilt panels. MBJ designed the project using Revit and Tekla Structures software to optimize the structural steel shop drawing creation and submittal process, which assisted in reducing steel procurement time and the overall building schedule by 54 days. MBJ worked closely with the blast consultant for the project to design the structural steel frame, exterior site cast concrete walls and supports for glass curtain wall to resist progressive collapse and blast protection loads in accordance with GSA requirements. The FBI Regional Headquarters was operational ahead of schedule and under budget and was awarded LEED Gold certification.
