THE PROJECT

Project Highlights
  • 30,000 SF headquarters
  • Five sound-insulated studios
  • Combined concrete, masonry, and steel structural materials

Hubbard Radio Phoenix, is home to all five of the company’s distinct Phoenix radio stations. Three separate locations were consolidated into the new two-story, 30,000-square-foot headquarters, designed to take advantage of the Camelback Mountain views. The dynamic studio/office space includes five sound-isolated studios, offices and conference space on the lower level, and an outdoor deck that provides a performance promenade for visiting artists. Staff and visitors are welcomed by a custom, musically-inspired guitar string grand staircase climbing the two-story “canyon” in the central lobby.

OUR SOLUTIONS

The primary challenge to the structure design was the acoustics required for creating studios for the five separate brands under the same roof. Twelve sound isolated studios inside the building are supported on steel framed floors, designed to minimize vibration, and supported on reinforced masonry bearing walls. The exposed concrete, open ceilings, and exposed steel structure celebrate the structural design with column-free space that allows daylight to flood the open office area. The design-build project won an Engineering Record Southwest Merit Award the same year it was completed.
