THE PROJECT

Project Highlights
  • Cast-in place concrete
  • Aluminum panel curtain wall system
  • Distinctive aluminum steel canopies

American Express Desert Ridge, situated on 94-acres in northeast Phoenix, provides a new modern office space designed for collaboration. The four-story, 300,000-square-foot office building and parking ramps were designed to meet the growing needs of the company and provide a creative environment for 3,000 employees. Private offices were reduced and replaced with larger open areas for collaboration. The building features flexible workspaces, a four-story atrium space with natural venting, and a two-story cafe to support the whole corporate campus. Two precast ramps provide ample parking for 1880 and 1520 cars.

OUR SOLUTIONS

Similar to several other structures on the same campus, the new office building is primarily cast-in place concrete with a precast concrete and aluminum panel curtain wall system. The project consists of four separate post-tensioned concrete plates that are interconnected with pedestrian walkways, including a steel bridge. The office building also features three distinctive aluminum steel exterior canopies totaling 10,500 square feet.

MBJ’s work on this project also includes two nearly identical precast concrete parking structures. The 610,000-square-foot parking structure provides parking for 1,880 vehicles while the 520,000-square-foot parking structure has additional space for 1,520 vehicles. Both five-stories tall, the structures allow for the reduction of 3,400 stalls of surface parking on the campus. Garage B also features an innovative cantilevered stair that wraps the elevator core.
