THE PROJECT

Project Highlights
  • A creative, mixed-use development spanning a full city block
  • Structural Engineer of Record for all 5 components of the block requiring coordination between multiple owners, architects, and subcontractors

Kraus-Anderson Mixed-Use Development, also known as the KA Block, revitalizes a full city block of east downtown Minneapolis and combines multiple programs including office, residential, hospitality, brewery and tap room, and parking. Initially imagined as solely a new 100,000-square-foot Kraus-Anderson Headquarters, the project responded to the city’s needs for a vibrant, mixed-use hub and expanded to include HQ Apartments, a 17-story, 300-unit apartment tower; Elliot Park Hotel by Marriott, an eight-story, 114,000-square-foot hotel; and Finnegan’s House/FINNovation Lab, a craft brewery/taproom and small-business incubator. Underground parking for 500+ vehicles support the block’s occupancies and abundant green plaza space further enhance the new block. MBJ is the Structural Engineer of Record for the entire multi-phased development.
